It's a new technology that some people believe will replace money as we know it.
Cryptocurrencies are a type of money. Maybe they are like sea shells. Instead of using money, you and your friends might swap sea shells. They could represent value, like $5 per shell.
There are many cryptocurrencies and many are still cheap. There are tokens and coins. For example, there's the coin called Stellar XLM and there's the token called Shiba Inu. One day we could buy McDonalds with Shiba Inu tokens instead of money.
